Sometimes, your computer may display an error indicating that the mailbox database is being cleaned up. There can be several reasons for this problem.

    Syntax

    Database

Clean-Mailbox [-Identity] [-Confirm] [-DomainController ] [-What if] []

    Description

A linked mailbox consists of two segments: a mailbox object in the Exchange store and a user object via Exchange properties in Active Directory. A standalone mailbox is a mailbox in the Exchange store, but the product is not associated with a user’s product in Active Directory. To disable post office tn, use the Disable-Mailbox cmdlet. To detach a mailbox and remove all user objects from Active Directory, implement the Remove-Mailbox cmdlet. If you want to permanently remove a mailbox object from the Exchange store, use the new Remove-Mailbox cmdlet.

How do I clean up my Exchange database?

Use a database to remove unnecessary data.Perform an offline defragmentation or move data to a new database. Offline defragmentation recovers complete free space (called dynamic disk space) in the Exchange database.Wake up the data again and erase it, including the server.

If you want to access a mailbox that is not connected to a user accountFor Active Directory, use the Connect-Mailbox cmdlet.

Under normal circumstances, you do not need to run the Clean-MailboxDatabase cmdlet because the mailbox is marked disabled as soon as you run the Disable-Mailbox or Remove-Mailbox command. If you used our custom Disable-Mailbox or Remove-Mailbox cmdlet when the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service was stopped, or if a specific mailbox was disabled in any way other than the Disable-Mailbox or Remove-Mailbox cmdlet, you can hope that you can use the Clean-MailboxDatabase cmdlet to find disconnected mailboxes.

You must have permissions before running this cmdlet. Although this question lists all the parameters for the cmdlet name, you may not be able to access some of the parameters if they are not included in the permissions assigned to the person. For more information about how to determine the permissions required to run a cmdlet or customizations specific to your organization, see Determining Permissions Required to Run an Exchange Cmdlet .

    2. Log files. As soon as Exchange Server finishes processing the database pages, they are written to the usage log file. Each storage group — each group that contains one or more database files — has its own set of computer log files that start with their own prefix (for example, E00, E101, and so on).

To see the most common input for this cmdlet, see Input and Output Types for a Cmdlet . If the Input Type field for the actual cmdlet is empty, the cmdlet will not allow input.

    Conclusions

How do I clean my mailbox database?

To clean up the mailbox database, you must run the entire clean-mailboxdatabase command. The next step is to shrink and defragNotation the mailbox directory by disabling the mailbox database and using the esutil.exe utility to defragment the database. Mount the database.

To see the various types, also called native types, that this cmdlet accepts, use the input and output types of the cmdlet . If the Output Type field is ignored, the cmdlet returns no data.

Use Clean-MailboxDatabase frequently to use the cmdlet to search Active Directory for disconnected mailboxes that have not yet been marked disabled in the Microsoft Exchange store, and then update the collation of those mailboxes in the Exchange Bank. This cmdlet cannot update the Exchange Information Store directly unless the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is running and the database is no longer connected.

    • Destructive cmdlets (such as Remove – * -) have a built-in get-pause that requires you to speak before continuing. For the same cmdlets, you can ignore the confirmation prompt using the exact format: -Confirm: $ false .
    • Most other cmdlets (such as New- * and Set- *) do not have a special built-in pause. For these cmdlets, specifying the useless Confirm radio button results in a pause that requires your family members to confirm the command before continuing.
